As a digital artist I try to practice a bit of photography to train my eye in terms of perspective, color, lighting and subjects. I don't consider my self a photographer though, but taking pictures of things that catch my attention definitely helps me a lot to understand the principles of any piece of art (wether is traditional or digital)
So I just got a cheap DSLR camera and every time I have the chance to travel or just walk around where I live I try to take pictures of the things that calls me.
The beautiful thing is that the smallest thing in the world can be a very cool subject matter to be photographed, painted or represented in a Full CG render. Before I started getting into the VFX and CGI world I just didn't care about many things that were around me, but now I can just be walking on the street observing carefully the smallest details that the world has to show to me :)
